A common barrier to employer engagement is a lack of employer liability insurance within the business. In a City, which is dominated by SME's this was a major issue.

Engage approached George Baker Insurance Brokers in February 2006 with a view to investigate the insurance opportunities that would assist them working in the City to further employment prospects for various groups in the community.

George Baker Insurance Broker (GBIB) were sympathetic to the needs of Engage and welcomed the opportunity to assist them in finding a solution to their problem. As a local Business, GBIB can clearly see the advantages in employing local people, both in terms of supporting the local economy and local community.

How it Works

Due to the Financial Services Authority, there will be a set process in order for GBIB to provide a quotation for Engage businesses; Engage are not allowed to be involved in any discussions relating to Insurance matters with such businesses.

The following protocol applies for Engage members that have organised a placement or employment with a business, GBIB will require a faxed (or emailed) confirmation of:

1. Engage member name and contact details
2. Engage candidate undertaking the work placement
3. What duties he/she will be doing
4. Which business the placement is supplied to
5. A copy of the completed Engage Health & Safety Checklist download the Employer Liability Insurance Questionnaire download the Engage Health & Safety Checklist download the Engage Health & Safety Checklist HASP standards
6. GBIB will then contact the business direct to obtain the relevant information required and GBIB will continue to liaise with them throughout the quotation process.

Once cover has been agreed, GBIB will confirm this to the Engage member and provide details of the Insurer, Policy Number, Cover in Force and Expiry Date of the policy, for their records.

GBIB will also supply Engage HQ with details of each insurance transaction. Upon acceptance of the quotation, the business will become a client of GBIB, who will endeavour to provide a standard of service to said business that would be expected of any FSA Regulated Insurance Broker.
